This happened to me when i was new. I was only familiar with early generation mons. It was Xerneas over Swirlex. I was like oh that’s a cool looking one, i guess that’s what Swirlex evolves into. It was NOT was Swirlex evolved into.

A glitch with the showcases. I have this happen after viewing a showcase. I’m guessing you looked at one and first place was Reshiram

It’s related to the showcase. It’s a bug that’s been around ages. For whatever reason the showcase leader Pokémon joins your buddy in all buddy-related screens (this page, snapshots, hitting the pokéball).
